Make it 10 wins a row for the Wright varsity volleyball team. Since Sept. 8, the Lady Panthers have lost just two sets and have won 14 of their last 16 matches.
With one regular season match remaining before the regional tournament in Glenrock Oct. 26-27, Wright continues to hold on to the top spot in the 2A ranks and is operating on cruise control.
On the road at Big Horn last Friday, head coach Sarah Seamands and her team had very little trouble with the Lady Rams. They took the first two sets, 25-21, 25-15 but slipped a bit in the third set, losing 24-26. They rebounded in the fourth set and won comfortably, 25-12 to defeat Big Horn for the second time this season.
Against last year’s state runner-up on Saturday, Wright came out a bit flat and dropped the first set to Sundance, 18-25. It was all Lady Panthers from that point on. They won the next three sets, 25-10, 25-10 and 25-15 to claim their 10th straight win.
You have to go back to the Big Horn Tournament in early September to find Wright’s last loss, a 2-1 loss suffered to conference foe Pine Bluffs.
Although things have calmed down in the 2A rankings over the last few weeks, Wright and Pine Bluffs have held on to the top-two spots in the conference since then and look to be the favorites heading into next weekend’s regional tournament.
The Lady Panthers will host Moorcroft on Friday and Tongue River on Saturday to close out the regular season.
