On their home mat last Saturday, the Wright wrestlers welcomed teams from around the state for the Christmas Duals Invite. The day featured wrestlers from Kelly Walsh, Belle Fourche, Torrington, Lusk and a few other schools.
For the Panthers, the first two duals of the day pitted them against Belle Fourche and Kelly Walsh. With a few wrestlers still feeling their share of dings at the early junction of the season, it was rough sledding for the Battle Cats. But like any tournament, the Panthers fought through the pains and aches to come out the other end with another week of matches under their belt.
Through two weeks of action, several Wright wrestlers are featured in the top ranks by WyoWrestling. Sophomore Kagen Baker is ranked fifth at the 106 weight class. Coming off a strong sophomore campaign, junior Preston Seamands sits in second at 120. At 126, Kaden Tescher is ranked sixth and at 145, Kayden Mack is ranked seventh.
Up at 220, Phoenix Buske is sitting strong with a third-place ranking and at 160, Dax Yeradi is the top-ranked wrestler, although he’s yet to suit up this season.
Complete results from the Christmas Duals were unavailable as of the High Plain Sentinel’s deadline, but according to head coach Larry Yeradi, as the Panthers battle through the Christmas break and into the new year, they should start to see a cleaner bill of health as they head into the long stretch of the season. The Panthers are a young team overall but one loaded with talent and potential.
Wright will roll out the mats once more today for a triangular invite with Shoshoni and Southeast. Upon the start of the new year, the Panthers will then host the New Year Duals Invite on Jan. 5.
